Bank feed is not reconciliation
Connecting your bank to QuickBooks Online helps bring in transactions, but downloaded activity still needs review, categorization, and reconciliation against the actual statement.
Common causes
Differences may result from missing transactions, duplicates, uncleared checks, deposits in transit, incorrect opening balances, transactions posted to the wrong account, or entries changed after reconciliation.
Check the statement date
Compare the QuickBooks balance as of the statement ending date—not simply today’s online bank balance. Timing matters, especially when transactions clear after month-end.
Avoid quick fixes
An unexplained journal entry or reconciliation adjustment can hide the underlying problem. Review the reconciliation history and transaction details first, especially if prior periods were changed.
When to get help
If discrepancies persist, a targeted review or clean-up can help identify their source and establish a reliable reconciliation process.
